Looking towards the future

My vision

Thinking about my future is a little hard for me to do, but I know what I would like to see. To put it simply, I would like to see myself working on Broadway in New York City or working with shows as a stage manager in the next 20 years. This is a big vision for me as the theater business can be difficult, but I think if I keep pursuing my work and dreams I can get there. To achieve this dream I would first go to college, specifically one that has a good theater department.

For the next four or five years would study technical theatre and stage management to get the skills I need to run and produce a large-scale show. At this time I would also try to get a minor in mechanical engineering as it is another smaller passion of mine. Engineering is also a very important part of theater as the building props and lighting requires skill in this field. Moving on to the next ten years, I would be gaining experience by working at local theaters or in small shows, perfecting the skills I just learned at college.

This is a long time, ten years, but it stage managing and doing technical theater requires a lot of trial and error so this time will help me find my groove. The time will also help me gain credits in the theater business, by this I mean I can put that I have had worked on many shows during my career. For my last five to six years in my 20-year action plan is working on touring shows and/or small off-Broadway shows. This is when I have gained enough experience in theater and can move up to working on bigger productions and working for more notable companies/ shows.
